Celebrating Family...
Before writing this piece, I tried to think about what's really important in life, and what it comes down to for me, is family. I think about family dinners and cookouts, vacations, celebrations and milestones. I think about how families change and grow and go their separate ways.
For me, it's about being in the moment, but it's also about making memories! It's easy to believe that only a photographer would think that pictures are important, but when I see family and friends and people I hardly know bring out their snapshots or show pictures they've taken with their camera phones, I know that memories and moments are important to them too!
Why then, is it important for you to have a family photographer who can help you preserve those memories?
The answer can be found in the pictures folks take themselves. Most pictures are afterthoughts. They're taken on the spur of the moment. There's no planning. They're just fun and candid, easily shared and quickly forgotten. That's how it should be. As a family photographer, however, I pay more attention to expressions, backgrounds, lighting and technique. My knowledge and experience enables me to go beyond the snapshot and capture emotions, relationships so much more!
What is it that prevents people from seeking out a professional photographer?
Most of us are worried about how we'll look in a photograph. We want to look natural. We don't want to look stilted, stiff or self-important. We're also self-conscious about the way we look in pictures. We worry about height and weight. We may see bags or blemishes that seem pronounced. In reality, there is nothing natural about photography. It is a fact that film and digital cameras see things that aren't really there and exaggerate them to the point of being unflattering. We tend to think of pictures as real when, in fact, they aren't. As a professional photographer, I understand the camera and its limitations, and can correct for its shortcomings.
Convenience is another issue. It takes time to prepare and travel to the studio. The more people involved, the more difficult it can be to coordinate schedules. You can lose that feeling of spontaneity. I, on the other hand, prefer to come to my clients. By being available, flexible and willing to go to virtually any location, having your pictures takenbecomes fun, convenient and yes... a pleasure!
Another big concern is the expense. I want you to have lots of great pictures that are easy to own or share. To that end, I include a CD with all your pictures and a copyright release. Not only can you print your own pictures, but you can share them in a multitude of ways. For those of you who prefer professionally produced portraits and gift items, you can still get them from me at a price that makes them easy to own and share.
If there were a way for you to have really great pictures of your family
and be both convenient and affordable to you,
